The Day I Went Cage Diving With Sharks in South Africa!

In an attempt to carry on the adrenaline fuelled posts I wracked my brain over what other adventures I partook in whilst in South Africa, and for some reason cage diving with sharks nearly slipped my mind! Not because it was forgettable in any way, but because although it was one hell of an amazing experience, it wasn’t one that stirred random irrational fears (such as heights; see my bungee jumping experience!). Sharks are obviously not an irrational fear. It…

The Day I Jumped Off A Bridge In South Africa! (Okay, I Was Pushed…)

After a stint in Jeffrey’s Bay as surfers, our tour group moved on to our next adventure. The first activity was a brilliant zip lining escapade through canopies and over waterfalls, and second was throwing ourselves off a bridge! I’m glad I’m a bit of an adrenaline junkie, because otherwise this day would have been a total waste. But, when in South Africa, the best thing to do is throw yourself at things (or off things, as the case may…

The Ultimate Full Moon Party Survival Guide!

I was actually not that bothered about going to the Full Moon Party before I left for Thailand. I’d heard a wide range of stories from other travellers, as well as people who hadn’t actually been before! And most of them were pretty negative, which is a shame – but I guess anywhere with over 10,000 young (and old!) revellers congregating on one beach, it is always going to get a bad rep! But, once on Koh Tao and getting…

Jeffrey’s Bay, South Africa – A Surfer’s (and everybody else’s) Paradise

I must admit, I hadn’t actually realised how well known Jeffrey’s Bay (or more commonly, J-Bay) was renowned for surfing, which was bad on my part. But as soon as we drove through the town, and saw those long stretches of A-MAZING beaches – you can definitely believe why! And according to Wikipedia (ahem) it’s said to be one of the five most famous surfing destinations (and even number 2 on the ‘best in the world’ list) hosting numerous surfing events throughout the…

Sickness & Ill Health Abroad – A Traveller’s Worst Nightmare!

It happens to all of us. One day your fine, the next – everything aches, your dinner from the previous night isn’t staying down and you generally feel and look like complete crap. But, you’re 1000’s of miles from home with no proper understanding of the language of the country you’re in, coupled together with an almighty feeling of embarrassment. It sucks. Luckily, this has only happened to me once. Unluckily for me, it was something a bit more serious…

South Africa Garden Route: Port Elizabeth

After a full week on safari it was time to start off on the Garden Route, with our first stop being Port Elizabeth (PE). For those of you that don’t know, the Garden Route is a beautifully scenic stretch of the south-eastern coast of South Africa. The route is known as it is for its ecologically diverse plant life and Port Elizabeth, which is more commonly known also as the Friendly City, is situated at the eastern end of the…

Where It All Started: South Africa & Volunteering

If you’re reading this, and you know me, you’ll most likely have come to realise I love Elephants. To me they are one of the most fascinating creatures on this Earth, and because of that have had an uncontrollable need to see these creatures up close and personal in their natural environment ever since I can remember. With this in mind, after graduating from University in 2011 and securing my first ‘proper job’ I started getting itchy feet and that’s…

This is my first ever blog post – and hopefully one of many! I’ve wanted to set up something like this for a while, and it’s taken a long time to get of my backside and actually go through with it. But here we are. This blog is basically me trying to chronicle my travels across the globe – as well as offering some help and advice for solo traveler’s like myself that are weary about heading out on their…
