The Day I Quit My Job To Travel!

October 28, 2014|Posted in: Misc, Uncategorized

This is a bit of a weird post, in that I actually sat down and started to write this back in August. But nevertheless, here we are 3 months later, and one hell of a life decision made. Some of you may know already, and some may not – but yesterday I handed in my notice at work so that come January the 15th, I will be jet setting off around the world on a one-way ticket for an unspecified amount of time! Yep. That’s right. I’ve quit my job to the world. It’s been a pretty emotional roller-coaster over the past few days, and I can’t remember the last time I was so nervous! I guess it’s the whole ‘no going back now’ feeling. Like the realisation of my plans have actually become a reality!

If you do know me (and I hope you do by now!) then you’d have probably guessed that my need/want/lust for travel has pretty much dominated every waking thought, ever since I took off on the plane to nearly 3 years ago! Nothing has abated this thirst for adventure, or the unknown and so that’s why I’m pretty much throwing caution to the wind, quitting my stable job, with my stable life, to head out into the wild! Alone.

Im going on an adventure_small

I know, I had to get at least one Tolkien quote in here!

Some of you are probably thinking I’m crazy. I am. But I’m not the first person to do this, and definitely won’t be the last.

This blog is basically going to be my memoirs, my way of communicating to those of you who care to listen back home, and hopefully a way to continue to travel for a number of years. But also to show you that travelling doesn’t have a be a scary thing, and hopefully in that way will inspire some of you who are sat reading this that you CAN do it, that there isn’t really the ‘best time’ until you actually decide to say YES.

So, my itinerary (although, it will most likely change!) so far is this:

January 2015 – February 2015: Thailand (North)

February 2015 – March 2015: Laos

March 2015 – April 2015: Cambodia

April 2015 – May 2015: Vietnam

May 2015 – June 2015: Thailand (South)

June 2015 – July 2015: Malaysia/Bali/Lombok

July 2015 – July 2016: Australia

This is just a general outline, I’d love to add NZ, plus countries like Japan and China on the list too – but I guess we’ll wait and see what happens!

I’ll hopefully be detailing how I survive on a ‘backpackers’ budget, where to go, where not to go and from where I am at that point in time! But for now, the countdown begins!

The day i quit my job for our RTW trip it was crazy. They had no idea even though we started putting everything together a year in advance. It was a scary deal making that jump, Being a year into our trip it was the best thing we have ever done! Your plans will change and get rearranged. Have fun and looking forward to your post.

Thank you David! It’s weird how that one small action makes everything seem a little more real! 🙂
